She is a tough, sweet kid doing her best to grin and bear it as we headed out for a ski. Not even an hour before she had held her beloved guinea pig Chocolate while a veterinarian put him to sleep.
Being out in the sun and being able to move was important and good for her and her Dad and I.
She is sad and as she puts it – she misses her boy – and if a guinea pig is capable of love, that little creature certainly loved her. He would come to her when she called him – like a little dog, and purr whenever she touched him. A little fur person who came to us a year ago from the SPCA, already old and it seemed from his twisted, overgrown nails and odd cage habits, neglected. Never again, though. Not with this girl in charge.
She did right by him. This first pet, and he will not be forgotten by her, or her Mom either.
